(The game acts like Ambassador Spock joining is a big reveal, but he was included in some of the earliest marketing materials.) You’ll quickly learn that trying to keep everyone pleased is going to be impossible and instead you’ll focus on making your version of Rydek true to what you want her to be. I won’t forget how disappointed in myself I was when I panicked on a dialogue choice and caused Ambassador Spock to express displeasure in my decision. This is a recurring plotline throughout the game, and I loved how nothing was ever cut and dry, black and white – whatever decision Rydek chose was bound to upset someone, including Captain Solano. Depending on what you decide to do and say as Rydek, Solano will either gain trust in Rydek or question why he brought her aboard. He feels under pressure to prove himself and make up for the accident in the eyes of Starfleet command, meaning he’ll try to dictate Rydek’s actions. Her relationship with Captain Solano starts off precariously. Through your dialogue decisions and actions as Rydek, you’ll begin to mold what kind of character she is and how others perceive her in a way anyone who’s played a Telltale game before will be familiar with. She has to earn the trust of her new crewmates, including the captain of the Resolute. After an accident killed almost two dozen Resolute crew members a few months ago, including the former XO, Rydek enters a precarious situation. It expertly captures what makes Star Trek so wonderful and lets you pilot a fantastic narrative by putting you in the uniforms of two well-crafted characters. Dramatic Labs, a debut developer composed of former Telltale Games developers, looks to change that with Star Trek Resurgence. If you're not, you should avoid this at all costs coz it's not worth your Latinum.Star Trek is one of the most popular media franchises around, and yet it hasn’t yet made its mark in the world of video games. If you're a die hard fan of Trek, you'll no doubt struggle your way through this and say "Okay, well I had a time". ![]() The controls are horrendous, pressing all the way to the right or left makes your reticle slowly crawl it's way to it's destination, and that's frustrating because half of this gameplay is like "Move this dot over that dot and press RT". You don't really get to explore anything, you don't really get to wander your ship, you get to SEE things happening but you don't get the feeling your ever actually involved in this game at all. ![]() It's absolutely, without a doubt, the most basic mind-numbing experience I've ever come across in about 30 years of playing video games, and that's a shame. Most of the "gameplay consists of (Hold LS) or (Press RT + Hold LS) or (Move RS and Press RT to scan). The story is okay, but it would have taken an incredible bunch of writers to turn this fairly anemic plot into a 10 hour episode, and essentially that's what you're getting here because there is very little in the way of gameplay. ![]() That's basically all of the positives I have to say. Star Trek Resurgence has a few good things going for it, it takes us back to a TNG era setting free of all the random mayhem, bloodshed, hypocrisy, drug use and F-Bombs that the current iterations of Trek provide (Picard i'm looking at you.) They have managed to recreate the look and feel of the older series quite well. I've been a fan of Star Trek since I was a kid, watching TNG after school was nothing short of a ritual for me and I've been looking forwards I've been a fan of Star Trek since I was a kid, watching TNG after school was nothing short of a ritual for me and I've been looking forwards to playing this game (though I've always had my concerns).
